Hair salon alert: a common infection after a haircut and how to prevent it..

What started as a routine visit to the barbershop quickly turned into a troubling experience for a 27-year-old man. Just a few days after his haircut, he began to notice mild skin irritation. At first, it seemed harmless and easy to ignore, but over time the symptoms became more noticeable and uncomfortable, eventually pushing him to seek medical attention.

In the beginning, he experienced a burning sensation, increased skin sensitivity, and small bumps in the shaved area. Assuming it was temporary, he didn’t take it seriously. However, the condition rapidly worsened—more bumps appeared, swelling became visible, and the discomfort intensified, making it clear that something more serious was developing.

After consulting a doctor, he was diagnosed with bacterial folliculitis, a condition that occurs when bacteria enter hair follicles through tiny cuts or micro-injuries. These small openings in the skin can be caused by razors, clippers, or improperly maintained shaving tools. If hygiene practices are poor, especially in barbershops where tools are used on multiple clients, bacteria can easily spread and cause infections.

Although folliculitis is usually mild, it can become more severe without proper care. To reduce risk, experts recommend checking that tools are properly cleaned, ensuring razors are disposable and used only once, and paying attention to overall hygiene standards in the shop. If symptoms such as bumps, pain, swelling, or redness appear, it’s important to avoid touching the area, keep the skin clean and dry, and seek medical advice if the condition worsens.
