As a child, I vividly remember noticing a distinct mark high on my mother’s arm near her shoulder. It looked like a ring of small, subtle dents encircling a larger central indentation. I remember finding the shape unusual and strangely fascinating, especially because it seemed so different from any ordinary scar or birthmark I had seen before.
Though it strongly caught my curiosity back then, the original reason for my fascination eventually faded, and I forgot all about it in the years that followed. Like many childhood memories, it became buried beneath countless other experiences, and the mark itself slowly disappeared from my thoughts. At the time, I never imagined that something so small and seemingly insignificant would remain in my memory for so many years.
Of course, the mark never actually disappeared, remaining in the exact same spot all along. I had simply overlooked my past intrigue, forgetting whether I had ever asked my mother about its origin or if she had given me an explanation that I subsequently forgot. Every once in a while, I would notice it again, but I never gave it enough thought to bring up the question.
Looking back now, I find it interesting how certain details from childhood can stay with us even when we forget why they mattered in the first place. That small mark on my mother’s arm was something I noticed long ago, yet the mystery surrounding it remained quietly in the background. Perhaps I had once known the answer, or perhaps I had never asked at all. Either way, seeing it again brought back a curiosity I thought I had completely forgotten
