She explained how the hurt from her more recent relationships went deeper than anything she experienced in her first marriage.
“I can look back at my very first marriage and understand the painful parts of it but none of that pain compared to what I went through in the last two times I tried love” she said. Valerie added that she carries a lot of shame for allowing herself to be treated the way she was. “A lot of shame” she repeated for emphasis.
She was married to the late Eddie Van Halen from 1981 to 2007 and then to financial planner Tom Vitale from 2011 until their split in 2022. More recently she dated writer Mike Goodnough for about 10 months before they called it quits in late 2024.
