My husband and I have a strict rule: no phones during dinner. Last night, his phone lit up several times, but he ignored it at first. When it kept buzzing, he finally checked it and suddenly shouted, “Oh no! Mom!” before grabbing his phone.
Clearly panicked, he called the police, gave them his mother’s address, and rushed out of the house. About an hour later, he called me and explained that his mother had told him there had been a burglary at her home.
Fearing the worst, he immediately contacted the authorities and drove to her house. However, when he arrived, he discovered that the “burglary” was not what he had imagined. Someone had simply stolen potatoes from her garden earlier that day.
Unfortunately, by the time my mother-in-law clarified the situation, two police officers had already been dispatched to her home. My husband was left awkwardly explaining that the emergency was actually about missing vegetables, making for one very embarrassing misunderstanding.
