Never Ignore These Heart Attack Warning Signs

Warning Signs of a Heart Attack: Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), ischaemic heart disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, with cardiovascular diseases responsible for a staggering 8.9 million deaths in 2019 alone.
Medical research indicates that in the days or even months leading up to a heart attack, individuals often experience specific warning signs known as prodromal symptoms. A study published in The National Library of Medicine emphasizes that both patients and primary care physicians frequently overlook these crucial early indicators.
These prodromal symptoms can manifest in various ways, including chest pain, a sensation of heaviness or burning in the chest, palpitations, severe fatigue, sleep disturbances, shortness of breath, dizziness, anxiety, sudden temperature flashes (hot or cold), back pain, and nausea or vomiting.Key Warning Signs to Watch For
Fatigue
Experiencing extreme tiredness, constant sleepiness, or a complete lack of energy to complete basic daily tasks can be a major red flag. This profound fatigue often occurs because narrowed arteries restrict blood flow to the heart, forcing your body to work much harder to circulate oxygen. It is a very common early symptom for those experiencing underlying cardiac issues.

Shortness of Breath
When your lungs are not receiving the adequate oxygen levels required for your body to function properly, you will experience shortness of breath. If you or someone you love is suddenly struggling to catch their breath without exertion, it is highly advisable to consult a doctor immediately, as this can be a direct precursor to a heart attack. As WebMD notes, “shortness of breath and fatigue can be indicators of [heart failure].” Heart failure occurs when the heart can no longer pump blood efficiently throughout the body.
Weakness
If you are suddenly overcome by an unexplainable, full-body physical weakness, your body may be sending an urgent signal to slow down and medically evaluate your cardiovascular health.
Dizziness and Cold Sweats
Experiencing sudden dizziness, lightheadedness, or breaking out in cold sweats is often the direct result of poor blood circulation to the brain and body. This is a serious cardiovascular warning sign that should never be brushed aside.

Flu or Cold-Like Symptoms
Interestingly, many heart attack survivors report experiencing symptoms that closely mimic a standard cold or the flu in the days immediately preceding their cardiac event.

Chest Pressure
One of the most classic and recognizable symptoms of a heart attack is a distinct sensation of heavy pressure, squeezing, or tightness in the center of the chest. This uncomfortable pressure typically builds and intensifies right up until the attack occurs.
Swollen Feet
If you are suffering from congestive heart failure, one or both of the lower chambers of your heart may be struggling to pump blood effectively. As a result, blood can pool and accumulate in your extremities, leading to noticeable, uncomfortable swelling in your legs, ankles, and feet.
