The Casket Mystery

I stood outside the church on the day of my father Arnold’s funeral, struggling to accept that he was gone. As the service came to an end, my trained dog Bella suddenly burst into the church, leaped onto the casket, and began barking wildly. Bella never behaved that way without a reason, so I trusted her instincts. Ignoring the shocked reactions around me, I demanded that the casket be opened. When I looked inside, my heart nearly stopped—the casket was completely empty. The sight was so overwhelming that my mother collapsed, and I rushed her to the hospital before calling the police.

While the authorities investigated, I began searching for answers myself. At the morgue, I discovered that the coroner who had handled my father’s case had unexpectedly resigned, and my father’s records had disappeared. Soon afterward, I learned that I had inherited control of his company, which was facing financial trouble. As I dug deeper, I found strange clues everywhere, including missing collectibles from his office and rumors that he had been involved in a secret relationship with his secretary, Miss Pearson. The more I uncovered, the more convinced I became that my father’s death was not what it seemed.

My suspicions grew when I followed Miss Pearson and secretly searched her home. There, I found a photograph of her kissing my father and a $7 million life insurance policy listing her as the sole beneficiary. Police tried to stop her from leaving the country, but she disappeared before they could question her. Even so, I refused to give up. A missing figurine from my father’s collection led me to a risky plan. I sold my company shares and purchased a rare collectible that I believed would tempt my father into revealing himself if he was still alive.

My plan worked. During an auction, I watched in disbelief as my father stood up and bid $1 million for the figurine. Before he could leave, Detective Bradshaw and I confronted him. My father confessed that he had faked his death, bribed the coroner, staged the empty funeral, and planned to start a new life with his mistress using insurance money. Hearing the truth was devastating. As he was led away in handcuffs, I reminded him of the lesson he had taught me as a child—that a person should do what is right instead of following selfish desires. In the end, the lie that began with an empty casket ended with the truth finally being exposed
