Wheel of Fortune Fans Rip Puzzle On Social Media, Complain It’s “Stupid”

Viewers tuning into Wheel of Fortune last Friday were ready for the usual mix of clever clues and lighthearted spins. But one puzzle in particular stopped contestants—and social media—in their tracks.

While most of the game’s clues followed a familiar logic, including “Midnight Train to Georgia” (a song title), “sleeper car” and “clown car” (both plausible “places”), and “Don’t pack your whole closet” (a practical travel tip), it was one oddball entry that stirred up a storm online. The controversial answer? “Feeling transported.”

And fans were anything but impressed.

“What the Hell Does That Mean?”

Just moments after the episode wrapped, irritated fans flooded Reddit to share their outrage.

“‘Feeling transported’ — what the hell does that even mean?” one Redditor wrote in a thread now flooded with similar complaints.

Another user chimed in: “I don’t even know what that is supposed to describe. That’s not an activity—how could anyone guess that?”

A third declared bluntly: “Stupid, stupid puzzle!”

The issue for many was that the clue didn’t line up with the given category, and left players and viewers scratching their heads. On another thread, a user remarked, “I’ve never heard that phrase used that way. And I’ve been around a while.”

Others joined in with comments like:

“WTF, Wheel of Fortune? I’m 41 and never once heard that phrase.”

“That’s not even slang! Are we making up expressions now?”

Defenders Offer an Explanation

Not everyone was ready to throw in the towel. A handful of commenters tried to make sense of the phrase.

“Think of a song that instantly takes you back to childhood,” one person explained. “Or a smell that reminds you of your grandmother’s kitchen. That’s ‘feeling transported.’”

Another chimed in with a dictionary-style defense: “To feel emotionally moved or taken to another time or place—like during a really good book or movie.”

Still, the majority weren’t buying it, blaming poor writing—or even artificial intelligence—for what they saw as a nonsensical answer.

“Looks like AI is behind the wheel now,” one Reddit commenter quipped. “That has ChatGPT written all over it.”

The Rest of the Show Went Smoothly

Controversy aside, the rest of the night unfolded with typical game show flair. Gregg Liebgold of American Canyon, California, made it to the Bonus Round after racking up $21,300.

But luck wasn’t on his side in the final moments. Facing a puzzle in the “Around the House” category, Gregg got stumped trying to solve “_ _ S E _ _ _.” The correct answer: “fuse box.”

He didn’t win the $40,000 prize—but at least it wasn’t the elusive $100K jackpot.

Still, for many fans, Friday’s episode will be remembered less for its payouts and more for the puzzling clue that launched a thousand tweets.

And if social media is any measure, Wheel of Fortune may need to spin its way back to more grounded clues.
