Inheritance Changed Everything

I thought the betrayal was permanent, carved into legal documents and quiet glances I was never meant to see. But the day I finally asked if he’d ever imagined my life without him, the air changed. His confidence fell away, revealing a frightened man who hadn’t realized that reaching for new happiness had made his own child feel disposable. The shame in his eyes said more than any apology.

Liv surprised me too. She admitted she’d mistaken my distance for indifference, assuming I’d already let him go. Instead of a villain, I saw a woman just as afraid of being unwanted as I was. We didn’t fix decades in an afternoon, and the will didn’t magically heal the wound. But in that fragile, awkward honesty, we stopped fighting over a legacy of things and started building a legacy of being brave enough to stay at the table.
