Unknown Caller At 2:47

Just after three in the morning, a strange scraping noise against my bedroom window jolted me awake, and when the county dispatcher told me I had already called him fifteen minutes earlier, using my full name and address, I realized something was terribly wrong. I had been living alone since my husband died two years before, so the idea that a frightened woman had already phoned from inside my house left me shaken. The dispatcher asked if anyone lived with me and, when I said no, instructed me to stay in my bedroom until officers arrived. The scraping stopped, but the silence that followed felt even more unnerving as I waited for the sound of a police car outside.

Minutes later, officers knocked on my door, and after the dispatcher confirmed it was them, I hurried downstairs in my robe, phone still pressed to my ear. The older officer asked if I had called earlier, and when I denied it, he and his partner exchanged a troubled look before requesting permission to search the house. They checked every room, confirming the windows were locked, the back door was bolted, and nothing appeared disturbed. Yet the dispatcher’s record showed a call at 2:47 a.m., in which a woman using my identity described someone outside my bedroom window before the line abruptly cut. Outside, one officer found small footprints beneath that window, leading toward the sidewalk and then disappearing, with no sign of forced entry. After they left, I phoned my daughter in another state, and she quietly revealed she had dreamed of standing in our old yard, staring at my bedroom window and convinced something terrible was coming, waking a little before three. She insisted she had never contacted the police, leaving one lingering mystery: who had used my name to call for help?
