After their mother left them with him in February 2025, a Saginaw, Michigan man opened his home to her two sons, ages 12 and 14, despite facing incredibly difficult living conditions. At the time, he had no running water, no electricity, and no legal guardianship of the boys, but he refused to turn them away and did everything he could to give them a safe place to stay.

For nearly a year, the boys were unable to attend school as he struggled to navigate the complicated process of enrolling them without legal custody. Despite the challenges, he continued caring for them and trying to provide stability while working to improve their living situation. Their circumstances eventually came to public attention after ABC12 shared their story with the community.

Once the story was broadcast, everything began to change. Child Protective Services became involved, strangers from the community stepped forward to offer support, and a GoFundMe campaign raised more than $18,500 to help the family. His gutter business also began receiving new customers from people who wanted to support him after hearing about what he had done for the boys.

Today, he is working toward obtaining legal guardianship of the two brothers and creating a more stable future for them. Although he initially opened his home to help the boys during a difficult time, he says the relationship has become much deeper than that. In his words, the boys have helped him just as much as he has helped them, turning an extremely difficult situation into a story of family, resilience, and community support.
