My husband went to the bathroom, and at first I thought nothing of it. But when nearly an hour passed, I sent him a text asking if he was still alive. There was no response. I walked toward our bedroom and noticed that the bathroom light was still on, but the door was locked. I knocked several times and called his name, but there was complete silence on the other side.
My anxiety quickly turned into panic. Fearing that he might have fallen or become seriously ill, I grabbed a knife and managed to unlock the door. I rushed inside, expecting the worst, and immediately checked the shower and the rest of the bathroom. But he wasn’t there. For a moment, I had no idea where he could possibly have gone, and my heart was pounding as I searched the room.
Then I opened the walk-in closet—and there he was, lying on the floor. I completely freaked out and started shaking him, terrified that something terrible had happened. For those few seconds, I was convinced I was about to experience one of the worst moments of my life. I kept calling his name, desperately trying to wake him and make sure he was breathing.
Then I finally realized what had happened. He hadn’t collapsed or suffered some kind of emergency at all. He had gone into the closet with our blue blanket to comfort our elderly cat, who becomes terrified whenever thunderstorms roll through. Apparently, while lying there with the frightened cat, my husband had accidentally fallen asleep. My heart nearly stopped before I realized he was completely fine—and the terrifying mystery had a surprisingly sweet explanation
