My Fiancé Wanted My Inherited Apartment—I Chose to Walk Away..

When my grandmother passed away, she left me her apartment. It wasn’t luxurious, but it was fully mine and finally gave me a sense of security—no rent increases, landlords, or constant moving. My fiancé initially congratulated me and even helped me pack, but his attitude soon changed.

He started suggesting we renovate the apartment, rent it out for passive income, or sell it to help buy a bigger home. I reminded him that my grandmother had left it to me alone because she wanted me to have financial security. Instead of understanding, he accused me of being selfish and said I wasn’t thinking about our future marriage.

Then his parents got involved, suggesting that if I truly trusted him, I would combine everything before the wedding. The final straw came when my fiancé asked me to add his name to the deed “just to make paperwork easier later.”

That was when I realized he wasn’t simply planning our future—he was trying to secure a share of something he hadn’t earned. I ended the engagement. Some people say I threw away love over money, but I believe someone who sees your inheritance as something they’re entitled to may have already shown you what their love is worth.
