A round of thunderstorms on September 22, 2026, produced several hail reports across the United States as the storms tracked through multiple regions. The largest hailstones reached about 1 inch in diameter, described as roughly the size of a quarter, and this size was observed in more than one location during the event. Notable reports of these larger hailstones came from Colorado Springs in Colorado, Alpine in Utah, and Sterlington in Louisiana, showing that the impacts were spread across different parts of the country as the weather system moved. These locations stood out among the overall reports for experiencing the biggest hail during the outbreak, highlighting how a single day of storm activity led to similar hail sizes in distant communities.
\nAcross the affected areas, the storms delivered enough intensity to generate hailstones that forecasters and spotters measured and compared to common objects, settling on the quarter as a useful reference for the roughly 1-inch stones. While the available information focuses on hail size and the communities where the largest stones were reported, it underscores that multiple states were involved as the storms traveled. Colorado Springs, Alpine, and Sterlington were specifically noted for their 1-inch hail, distinguishing them from other locations that also saw hail but did not record larger sizes in the same way. The reports from this day provide a clear snapshot of how one round of thunderstorms can produce similar hail characteristics over a wide geographic area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
