For six months, I took Ubers to chemotherapy, and one driver, Marcus, always showed up, playing my favorite music and never making me feel uncomfortable about my bald head. On my last day, he refused to let me pay and told me to check my ride history. I froze when I discovered he had secretly refunded every ride, totaling $1,847. He explained, “My mom died of cancer alone because she couldn’t afford rides to treatment. She missed appointments, and the cancer spread. When you told me about your chemo, I promised you’d never miss treatment because of money. I drove you for free and reported cancellations so the app wouldn’t know.” Then he added, “My mom died because no one helped. You lived because someone did.” I stood there in tears, realizing that a stranger’s kindness had helped me keep fighting when I needed it most. ❤️
